INTERPRETATION OF CLUSTERS BASED ON
CORRELATION DISTANCE
ABSTRACT
This talk addresses the interpretation of clusters formed by the
hierarchical method using the correlation distance. Our method of
interpretation is based on the study of clusters specified by cutting
the dendrogram tree. In order to understand the spatial size of a
cluster, we were led to study the area of caps of the hypersphere.
This
area, relative to the whole sphere, provides the connection to
probability and has resulted in several methods of computing
significance of clusters. Results from microarray experiments will
be
presented along with some discussion of the connection between
clustering and functional groups of genes.
