Report on Jan 15 meeting: 15 people were present Business matters: 1. The first meeting AFTER the multiscale workshop, on Feb 12, will be devoted to the "Goals and Outcomes" document. This is something the program leaders are required to write by SAMSI, within two weeks of the opening workshop, and is supposed to outline our objectives for the rest of the program. By that time we will have heard short presentations from many of the regular attendees at our meetings, as well as the workshop talks, so it seems a good point to summarize where things stand. 2. Rich McLaughlin is ready to start organizing seminars. The times we have set aside for these are at noon on Wednedsays and Fridays. At the moment the Wednesday slot is being taken up with short presentations but we could start using the Friday slot right away if we want to. Please email Rich if you want to volunteer a talk or if you have suggestions. Short presentations were heard from the following: Rich McLaughlin, Jim Zidek, Casey Miller, Tim Kelley and Richard Smith. I have established a web page where I will store a log of these email messages, copies of the short presentations, and other materials as we generate them. The url for this web page is: http://www.stat.unc.edu/faculty/rs/envmod/hpage.html Could I please ask presenters to email me their contributions in whatever format they would like it stored on the web (at least the following formats are acceptable: plain text, MS Word, postscript, pdf, powerpoint). Next week (Jan 22): presentations from Gabriele Hegerl, Montse Fuentes, Robert Wolpert/Sandra McBride, Jie Yu, Jim Berger. RLS 01/16/03
